Are you a professional with a serious art hobby? I want to hear from you! ✨
Spend days in code editors, spreadsheets, meetings, or leading teams?
Then nights and weekends painting, drawing, sculpting, or crafting?
If so, you’re not alone 🙌
By day, I work structured tech product management 👨🏻💻
By night, I paint bold impression style landscapes 👨🎨
Not exactly Bruce Wayne and Batman… but…
Balancing a professional day job with a serious art hobby is not always easy.
-
Where do you find the time and energy for art after work?
-
Are you a ”fancy pants title” who paints? Or an “artist” with a day job?
-
How do you connect with people from each space? Are they different worlds?
These are questions to think about.
Here’s what I learned in my own duality ☯️
-
Work is primary. But time for art is essential. It does not need to be a ton of time. It’s more about consistency. Even a few times a week keeps sanity and balance. Schedule time to create art. Defend that time.
-
See the overlaps. Professional work and creative hobbies can complement each other. The organized day job helps approach art with structure. Creative and whimsical art helps stay fresh and open-minded at work.
-
Connect with others who share your duality. Especially customers and prospects! Many businesses serve creatives. Experience in art helps empathize and build rapport. It makes for good conversations. Especially with art in your zoom background. Being tech savvy in the art world is a big benefit. A great way to help art friends.
